Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG)


Safely use arc welding equipment
Produce finished welded joints to an acceptable standard i.e. BS4872
Select correct welding equipment settings
Recognise and select correct welding consumables
Recognise weld associated faults and make suitable corrections where applicable

Practical Work:

Arc welding safety – safely identify, assemble, connect start-up and shut down equipment including gases.
Weld bead onto plate, layered beads, lap, edge, closed and open corner and fillet welds.
Using dip and spray transfer methods as appropriate.

Course requirements for all processes:

Theory: Multi-Choice Questionnaire
Practical: Welds will be tested to the requirements of BS4872 where appropriate. Visual, macro-etch and fracture techniques will be used
